Final design idea

Latex development

To see whether the tissue paper is still necessary I have created samples of latex and ink combined. The issue I faced was that the ink bled out into the latex even when partially dry. Because I want clear mark making and line I have decided to keep the tissue paper.

Final idea development

For this development I wanted to explore the use of variation in line.

Latex development

To see if the latex and tissue paper technique would work in my final piece I created an A3 size experiment that has been very successful.

Latex development

This piece was supposed to be a flat image but then became stuck together. I like this mistake because it shows an interesting new quality to the latex.

Latex experiment

This experiment was successful because it combines a skin-like distorted material with distorted form. I feel like this really expresses my theme in a less obvious and more interesting.

Layer experiment

Here I have combined my tissue paper layering with Mehretu's quality of line and form.

Response to Julie Mehretu

In this piece I have experimented with the effects different quality of line has when combined.

Tissue paper drawings

By combining my tissue paper drawings in a spiral composition I have created an image that draws you to a central point.

Tissue paper drawings on board

Here I have experimented with composition to create depth.

Line drawing on tissue paper

Whilst making paper for earlier experiments I realised a link between the fragility of the paper that I was using and fragility of a person living in fear. This realisation caused me to experiment with tissue paper and delicate line drawings.

Exploring composition

I jotted down ideas in my notebook looking at how line and composition effects my imagery.

The texture and slight pigment to this experiment give the girl a slightly distorted and moody appearance.
